Behavioral Interview Training A critical step in the employee selection process is the employment interview. Behavioral Interviewing focuses on the applicant's past actions and behaviors, rather than subjective impressions that can sometimes be misleading, so interviewers can make more accurate hiring decisions. Behavioral interviewing, when approached properly, reduces the chance of potential bias or discrimination, is successful in regards to job relatedness, has a higher return on investment, and is more legally defensible than other types of interviewing. In fact, behavioral interviewing is said to be 55 percent predictive of future on-the-job behavior, while traditional interviewing is only 10 percent predictive (*Career Center of the University of Notre Dame, Janz, Hellervik, & Gilmore, 1986).
