Joe Sommers, Corporate Trainer
Over the past 20 years, Joe Sommers has developed his career in human resources
management in the areas of employee development, staffing and employment, recruiting
and interviewing training, college relations, coaching/mentoring, and competency
modeling development. Through his expertise in these areas, he has assisted organizations
in developing strategic employment and retention programs using effective cost-saving
strategies.
As a national employment director, Joe guided the staffing, college relations, international
assignments, and relocation programs for Ericsson, a worldwide leader in telecommunications.
Prior to his service at Ericsson, Joe assisted Andersen Consulting (now Accenture)
with the development and integration of an innovative behavioral interview program
for experienced hiring. Joe began his professional career in the U.S. Air Force
as a pilot and aircraft commander before joining EDS as a systems engineer. He transitioned
to human resources as a way to utilize his strong interest in the people business
and his belief in managing talent to the utmost benefit of the organization.
Joe has presented numerous behavioral interviewing, recruiting, and career transition
workshops for professional associations and corporate clients. He has made presentations
for the Employment Management Association (EMA) national conferences, the Iowa State
SHRM annual conference as well as local SHRM chapter programs, the Arizona Technical
Recruiters’ annual conference, and various nonprofit agencies and career support
groups.
Joe previously served on the national board of directors for EMA as vice president
of Professional Development and is Senior Advisor for the Dallas/Ft.Worth Staffing
Management Association (SMA) Chapter. He recently served on SHRM’s HR Consulting
& Outsourcing Expertise Panel. His interest in education and training is fostered
by his Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from the University of
Arkansas.
